Baking for the cat – with the best ingredients
Anyone who has ever had cats knows this scenario: the house cat loves things that are more likely to be on our menu. For almost every cat this includes cheese, yoghurt or cream; not to mention chicken, tuna, etc. As a loving cat owner, you naturally find a healthier alternative especially for your cats. But when you come home fully loaded with all sorts of goodies, you are viewed with skepticism. If you then open one or two packs and offer them to the cat, they are not interested in the industrially produced cat treats in the slightest. After a brief sniff, the cat’s nose wrinkles and the treats it has just bought are left standing there as ice cold. There you are, with a huge selection of the most amazing cat snacks and none of them please you. Of course, there are cats who love treats like this (good for the owners), but those who own a picky foodie cat probably know these moments.
There’s only one thing that helps: baking for the cat. That’s why we’ve put together a few recipes that are sure to have something for your gourmet. Of course, all foods to be processed are also suitable for cats, so you can get to work with a clear conscience. The advantage of homemade treats is very clear: baking is fun, you know exactly what’s in it and it simply tastes better (you know that yourself). All cookies should be stored in an airtight box for a maximum of 3 weeks or you can freeze them and defrost them as needed. Then they last up to a year. And now have fun baking for the cat!
Vitamin cookies
This recipe is particularly suitable for cats who particularly like a certain type of treat. This makes it easy to enter the world of home-baked cat treats, because it’s a combination! Half of the ingredients are available in the supermarket, the other half can be found in specialist shops. Cat flakes are also used to make unpopular wet food palatable to cats. So they taste particularly good. The great thing is that you can try out a lot of combinations with the way you prepare it – always with different garnishes. But first, let’s get to the recipe!
Ingredients:
250g wheat flour (type 405)
200g soft margarine
50g vitamin flakes
50g cat flakes
egg yolk
A few crumbs of dry food
Preparation:
Mix all the ingredients (except egg yolk and dry food) and put the dough in the fridge for 2 hours. Then you roll it out and cut out small cookies – children can also help out here. Finally, brush the cookies with egg yolk and press a piece of dry food into the top of the dough. Then it goes into the oven at 180°C for about 9 minutes. Allow to cool and offer.
Fish snacks
Although every cartoon cat on TV loves fish, that’s not quite the case in real life. This recipe is still particularly suitable for all cats who cannot resist fish. The great thing about this recipe is that the dough doesn’t have to go into the fridge to cool down. This means that the preparation is really quick and can be done in between. Plus, if you like fish, you already have most of the ingredients you need at home. Perfect for a spontaneous baking event!
Ingredients:
1 can of tuna in water (150g)
250g corn semolina
250g flour (type 405)
60ml water
125ml vegetable oil
Salt
Preparation:
Mix all the ingredients, knead well and then roll out. Then cut out cookies again and place them on a greased baking tray. They then stay in the oven at 180°C for a good quarter of an hour until they look crispy. Allow the finished treats to cool and give to your fish lover.
Gourmet poultry bites
If you read through the recipe for the next cat snack, it quickly becomes clear that this is something for connoisseurs. The poultry you can use is chicken or turkey – depending on what the cat prefers. This requires a little more work than the previous lightning recipe, but your cat will thank you for it. Again, the used food is all available at the grocery store.
Ingredients:
375g fresh poultry
1 large egg
45ml chicken stock
250g corn semolina
125g wheat flour (type 405)
Preparation:
First, cook the poultry well and let it cool briefly. The meat, along with a large egg and the chicken broth (if you want to avoid salt or the cat has kidney problems, water is also possible) are then chopped up in the blender and mixed together. Then mix the corn semolina with the wheat flour in a second bowl. The poultry mixture is now gradually added while stirring until a well-moisturized, homogeneous mass is created. The dough is now covered and placed in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours. When the time is up, the dough is rolled out again, cut out and the cookies are placed on a greased baking tray. A quarter of an hour in the oven at 180°C ensures the necessary crispiness. Allow treats to cool before giving them to the cat for testing.
Cheese Cat Cookies
The last recipe is almost a guarantee of cat love. A good portion of cheese, mixed with delicious butter flavor and additional milk, will probably make every cat’s mouth water. You usually have the ingredients for this recipe at home.
